Nestled in the rolling hills of the Leelanau
Peninsula, the restful retreat of Sleeping Bear Bed and Breakfast
awaits. From the friendly greeting to the touch of crisp linens to
the smell of a gourmet breakfast, you will know you have arrived at
the place to rest and renew your energy.
In 1889, George W. Gilbert built his family home, which is now
Sleeping Bear Bed & Breakfast. Much of the current charm is
due to the care that went into the original house. Our maple-lined
drive is a testimony to this.
A restoration completed in the early 1990s resulted in what is
now the Sleeping Bear Bed & Breakfast. The dining area, with
its eight large windows is perfect for viewing the multitude of
birds visiting the bed and breakfast. Other special features include
original built-in leaded glass cabinets in the dining room and a
coffered wood ceiling in the common room. The common room is designed
to provide a variety of entertainment options. Whether it is the
latest DVD, a classic video or browsing the many books and magazines,
your relaxation and enjoyment are assured. Antiques grace every
room in the house, several of which are offered for sale.
Enchanting vistas from numerous outdoor seating areas beckon guests
to spend time reading a book, enjoying lively conversation or sipping
a glass of local wine purchased from one of Leelanau Peninsula's
outstanding wineries. Watching the morning mists rise off the nearby
rolling hills prompted one guest to comment, "It reminds me
of Tuscany." There is also a hammock for those afternoon siestas.
For our younger guests, there are acres for outdoor activities.
The gardens and plantings are an ever-changing palette of colors
and shapes. As dedicated gardeners, we are constantly adding new
features.
People arrive as guests and leave as friends!
